Babraham Primary School
Curriculum Statement – Science
“Science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated.” Rosalind Franklin
Our vision at Babraham is to encourage every pupil to become a scientist who acquires a deep and thorough understanding of the Science curriculum while cultivating a confidence and enthusiasm for investigating the world around them. We want our children to be aware of the impact science has on the world and what their part could be during scientific developments in their future.
Weekly Science lessons are planned to be engaging and practical, while making links to theoretical ideas. Encouragement of enquiry is at the forefront of each lesson. Investigative skills are developed throughout KS1 and 2 which include: questioning, hypothesising, predicting, planning, collecting results using a range of equipment, recording results in a variety of ways (such as bar graphs), evaluation, conclusion and suggesting next steps.
The curriculum is broad and progressive and covers key areas of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Assessment is ongoing, providing the teacher with clear consideration of gaps in understanding and to support future planning.
